Despite its haunting atmosphere at night time, Highgate Cemetery is home to some incredibly stunning Gothic architecture and it is also the burial place for Karl Marx. 2 - Borley Rectory - Essex In 1929 Borley Rectory was dubbed ‘The most haunted house in England’ after famous ghost hunter Henry Price investigated the sightings of a mysterious phantom. The house was later destroyed in a fire in 1939; however, it is still considered to be incredibly spooky and continues to be visited by many avid ghost hunters. |
3 - Pendle Hill - Lancashire Pendle Hill is located in the Lancashire Pennines in an area known as the Pendle witch country. The area was the home to Britain’s famous witch trial the ‘Witches of Pendle’ in 1612. At this trial 10 suspected witches were hanged at Lancaster Castle, and it is believed that they still haunt the area. 4 - Red Lion - Avebury, Wiltshire The Red Lion is a 400 year old pub that is situated in the centre of Avebury’s stone circle, where a Pagan festival is held every six weeks. The stone circle is a world heritage site, and is the largest stone circle in Europe. 5 - Ancient Ram Inn - Wotten-under-Edge, Gloucestershire The Ancient Ram Inn is a rather creepy building with creaky floorboards and dimly lit nooks and crannies, all that you would imagine a haunted house to be. The stories that are attached to this building are quiet scary too, they involve several dark deeds which are said to have occurred on this supposed pagan burial ground, including child sacrifice, murder and Satanism to name a few. 6 - Glamis Castle - Angus, Scotland Glamis Castle has been home to 600 years of Royal history and is one of Scotland’s most stunning and haunted castles. The most famous spirit who is said to haunt the castle is the Monster of Glamis, who was a deformed child who was kept, locked up in a hidden room his entire life.

8 - Culloden Moor - Near Inverness Culloden Moor was the site for the last battle to have ever taken place on British soil. The Jackobite rebellion was fought on 16 April 1746 and many of the fighters were massacred on the moor. Ghostly experiences have been felt in every room of the great manor, as well as along the corridors and on the stairs. Spirits have been seen, heard or felt. Sometimes people have smelt strange odours in the air of violets or lavender, and even roast beef. 10 - Berry Pomeroy Castle, near Totnes, Devon Berry Pomeroy Castle was built in the 14th Century and has two famous female ghosts: the White Lady and the Blue Lady. The White Lady is said to be the spirit of Margaret Pomeroy, who starved to death when she was imprisoned by her sister. The White Lady haunts the dungeons where she was locked up and has been seen rising from St. Margaret’s Tower. The Blue Lady is said to be the daughter of a Norman lord, who apparently murdered her own child. At various times cries from a distressed infant can be heard. | |
