Urban Legends
No Halloween night would be complete without a few urban legends to put the frighteners on. Urban legends are scary stories that are rumoured to stem from true events, and have been passed down through word of mouth and often embellished to make them scarier. Here are just a couple. | | Stranded
A young couple were driving along a country road on the way back from their holiday.
The road was very dark with trees lined on each side. All of a sudden their car stopped and the man couldn’t get it to restart.
The man then turned to his girlfriend and said “I saw a house further back; I’ll walk up there and see if I can use their phone to call for help”
The girl tried to insist that she went with him, but he said “You wait here, don’t get out of the car and lock the doors.”
After he had gone she turned on the radio and heard that this madman was on the loose after breaking free from the local prison. |
So she sat and waited for him. And waited and waited. She tried to take a nap but couldn't because she was worrying where he could be.
She heard a "tap, tap, tap" on the car window next to her.
She looked up, hoping to see her boyfriend's face. Instead it was a man's face that was dirty and covered in cuts and bruises. His eyes were wide and bloodshot, and he stood there laughing at her. She screamed when she saw her boyfriend's severed head in his hand and a knife in the other. She turned away to reach for her mobile phone. Thinking he had gone away she looked again. Only this time....He held the car keys in the other hand instead of the knife. The babysitter
A young girl was babysitting two young children. She sent them to bed and soon started doing some homework when the phone rang. She picked it up,
"Hello?" she said.
There was a man on the other end, "Go and check the children" he sang at her before the line went dead.
The babysitter thought this was a prank and continued with her university homework. About and hour later the phone rang again, it was the man.
"Go and check the children" he sang again.
The girl was beginning to get scared, fifteen minutes later the phone rang.
"Hello?" She answered hesitantly.
She heard the man laughing down the phone, before he hung up again. The girl then called the telephone company. The operator told her that she would trace the call the next time the man called her. Sure enough, a little while later he called again:
"Go upstairs and check the children" he sand out again.
The girl hung up and called the telephone company again.
"Get out!" the operator said, "the calls are coming from inside the house!”
The girl rushed to the door and ran outside.
When the police came they found the children dead in their beds. | |
